Former National Museums of Kenya Director-General Mzalendo Kibunja found himself in trouble when he was put in custody on Monday, 15th April 2024 as Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigators arrested him for the alleged misappropriation of Ksh.490 million.
Kibunja, along with three other National Museums of Kenya officials, including ICT officer Oliver Okinyi and Oscar Mwaura spend the night in EACC cells awaiting arraignment.
Mwaura stands accused of orchestrating the recruitment of fictitious employees, who received payments that were subsequently diverted into personal accounts. This fraudulent activity purportedly spanned five years.
The quartet was held at the EACC Integrity Centre police station pending their scheduled appearance in court on Tuesday.
In a statement, the commission declared its intent to launch a restitution process aimed at recovering the misappropriated funds.
