A suspected armed robber has been shot dead in the Mwihoko area of Kiambu county, with two of his accomplices cheating death by a whisker.
The incident unfolded after police officers received intelligence about three individuals planning a robbery on Tuesday.
Despite orders to stop, the suspects engaged in a high-speed pursuit from Eastlands to Mwikoko, where their getaway vehicle became stuck in mud. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one suspect was fatally shot, while the other two managed to flee and evade capture.
During the operation, authorities recovered a pistol believed to have been stolen from an Officer in Charge of a Police Station (OCS) in Vihiga last December. The OCS had sustained severe injuries during the robbery, with the suspect absconding with the firearm, which had 15 rounds of ammunition at the time.
However, upon recovery during Tuesday’s incident, the pistol contained only two rounds of ammunition. Investigators are now probing whether the weapon has been involved in other criminal activities.
