President William Ruto’s UDA party has announced a reshuffle within the National Elections Board (NEB), appointing Anthony Mwaura, the Kenya Revenue Authority boss, as its new chairperson.
Veronica Kiberenge has been named Vice Chairperson, alongside other members Lydia Munika, Jimmy Kaingi, Mary Mutinga, Halake Dida, and Linda Kiome, in the reconstituted NEB.
Additionally, Joy Masinde, the Kenya Power Chairperson, has been appointed as the chair of the Electoral Disputes Resolution Committee (EDRC) for UDA. The committee includes Adrian Kamotho as Vice-Chairperson, and members such as Hellen Makone, Yvonne Cherop Kae, Dr. Duncan Ojwang, Kaberia Isaac, Barbra Japan, Anjichi Joseph, and Ziporah Karimi Muiruri.
Rebecca Tonkei will chair the Internal Dispute Resolution Committee (IDRC), joined by members including Hassan Omar, Joshua On’gera, Leah Manyarkiy, Samuel Kariuki, Bishop Robert Theuri, and Ronald Shako.
These appointments were announced following a National Steering Committee meeting chaired by Ruto at the Hustler Centre, with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also in attendance.
Furthermore, the meeting decided to postpone grassroots elections to later this month. According to UDA Secretary General Cleopas Malala, the NSC convened to discuss the forthcoming party grassroots elections and the reconstitution of relevant party organs.
The grassroots elections will kick off on April 26, 2024, covering seven counties: Nairobi, Narok, West Pokot, Busia, Homabay, Isiolo, and Garissa.
Subsequently, the second phase will take place on June 22, 2024, spanning 13 counties: Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kisii, Bungoma, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale, and Marsabit.
The third phase, scheduled for August 10, 2024, will cover 15 counties: Kiambu, Embu, Kericho, Meru, Migori, Kakamega, Nyamira, Kitui, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Kajiado, Mandera, Kilifi, Murang’a, and Lamu.
Lastly, the final phase is set for August 24, 2024, covering 12 counties including Nakuru, Bomet, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Baringo, Turkana, Laikipia, Trans-Nzoia, Kisumu, Vihiga, and Makueni.
UDA also announced that the elections will be conducted electronically.
