MPs have today voted to impeach Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi meaning that the House will now proceed to form a special committee to investigate the conduct of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi.
A total of 149 members voted in favour while 36 rejected it.
Three of the members abstained.
In today’s special debate, a third of the 349 members were required to vote for it to move to the next level.
This translates to 116 members.
The 11-member select committee will comprise six from the majority side which is Kenya Kwanza, four from the minority side and one from the Jubilee party.
It was not an easy day for the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula who was on several occasions forced to intervene and quell the building tension in the House during the debate on the impeachment of Mithika Linturi.
This was after a section of members rose from their seats as others stepped onto the floor while chanting Linturi must go.
