A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer and a woman were seriously injured in a banditry attack between Mainonin and Loruk in Baringo County on Saturday morning.
The attack occurred near the Moinonin IDP camp and involved about 100 armed bandits who drove away over 140 goats from eight families.
The incident comes as some residents, previously displaced due to insecurity, were starting to return to their homes. In response, the KDF deployed three helicopters: two to pursue the attackers and one to airlift the injured officer. The military aircraft also targeted the bandits’ hideouts with missiles and bombs.
Locals reported that bandits had been seen surveying the area the previous day and had notified the police, but no action was taken. The community remains on high alert following the attack, highlighting the ongoing insecurity in the region.
