Two police officers from Spring Valley Police Station in Westlands were assaulted by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers during a routine patrol near Waiyaki Way on Saturday morning.
According to a police report, the altercation began when the police officers spotted a suspicious individual riding a motorcycle during the early hours of Saturday.
After trailing the suspect along Kitisuru Road to Waiyaki Way, the officers intercepted him near the Red Hill/Waiyaki Way roundabout. However, their interrogation was interrupted when three military personnel from Kabete Barracks approached and demanded the suspect’s release.
Despite the police officers’ attempts to explain the situation, the KDF officers assaulted one of them, causing injuries to his right leg below the knee. Subsequently, more military personnel arrived, overpowering the police officers and allowing the suspect to escape into Kabete Barracks on his motorcycle.
Officers from Gigiri later arrived at the scene to restore order, and the injured officer was taken to South B Hospital for treatment.
The report indicates that, in an effort to prevent further confrontation, the decision was made not to pursue the suspect, who remained at Kabete Barracks with his motorcycle.
This incident adds to a series of clashes between KDF and police officers in recent months. In one instance, a soldier reportedly attacked police officers at a station and released a prisoner, while another incident showed military personnel involved in a scuffle with police officers at the Likoni Ferry in Mombasa, as captured in a viral video.
