The National Assembly’s committee on Tourism and Wildlife has revealed that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) spent approximately KSh38 million on cleaning and maintenance tasks as part of the preparations for the African Climate Change Conference held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in September 2023.

Of this total, KSh28,690,968 was allocated for cleaning the cabro pavements between the VIP entrance gate and the main entrance at KICC, while an estimated KSh10 million was dedicated to window cleaning.

Additionally, around KSh1.98 billion was utilized for renovating the first four floors and the Amphitheatre at KICC before the conference. Notably, KSh5.7 million was specifically allocated for enhancing the renowned Jomo Kenyatta sculpture at KICC.

Further details indicate that KSh14.5 million was spent on cleaning the auditorium’s carpet and seats, while KSh2 million was used for toilet maintenance. A significant portion of KSh68.9 million was invested in repairing the Amphitheatre, which involved installing a new carpet, renovating media control, and interpreter booths. Moreover, KSh9 million was allocated for upgrading the president’s waiting room, presidential kitchen, and washrooms. An additional KSh11 million was dedicated to renovating the Deputy President’s holding area and tiling the VIP waiting room.
