Kibor’s widow seeks court help after alleged eviction from matrimonial home

Eunita Kibor, the fourth and youngest widow of the late prominent farmer and politician Jackson Kibor, has sought protection from the High Court, alleging threats and eviction from her matrimonial home and inherited property.

In an urgent application, Eunita and her four children claim they have been unlawfully evicted from their home on the 300-acre Mafuta farm, which was given to her by Kibor before his passing. She accuses Kibor’s other sons and daughters of conspiring against her to strip her of her inheritance, in violation of a court order.

However, the accused have filed responses, accusing Eunita of meddling with the estate and disregarding court orders.

The estate left by Kibor, valued at over Sh16 billion, has become the subject of a fierce succession battle among his widows and children, which includes over 6,000 acres of land in Uasin Gishu.

Eunita alleges that her step-children have interfered with three parcels of land and evicted her and her children from their home in Kabenes. She claims they have also subjected her family to threats and abuse.

Following Kibor’s death in March 2022, Eunita’s eldest son returned from abroad fearing for the family’s safety.

During the court session presided over by Justice Reuben Nyakundi, Eunita presented her case, stating that they have endured violence, threats, and freezing of bank accounts meant for their support.

Represented by Kalya and Company advocates, Eunita requests the court to review preservation orders to specify the land each household occupies, providing protection for her and her children. She also seeks to restrain the respondents from interfering with their properties and collecting rent from Kibor’s rental units.

Justice Nyakundi extended preservation orders over the estate until the succession dispute is resolved and scheduled Eunita’s application to be heard on May 20, 2024.
