Businessman and former pastor James Wanjohi has voluntarily presented himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for questioning regarding allegations of defrauding over 4,000 Kenyans of approximately Sh600 million.
Wanjohi, who had been reportedly in hiding for weeks following a raid on his office by detectives, appeared at the Nairobi Regional Police headquarters accompanied by his lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru. They met with DCI officers and provided statements regarding the complaints raised against him.
Njiru denied the fraud allegations against his client, stating that they provided what they believe to be the true state of affairs regarding the matter. He emphasized that Wanjohi has not been involved in any fraudulent activities as portrayed in the media.
According to Njiru, Wanjohi does not operate a recruitment agency as previously claimed but rather runs a visa facilitation company. He clarified that Wanjohi’s business is legitimate and still operational, contrary to reports suggesting otherwise.
Furthermore, Wanjohi distanced himself from his previous association with a church mission, stating that he abandoned his role as a preacher two years ago. He described the allegations against him as fictitious and aimed at tarnishing his reputation and that of his company.
Njiru reiterated that they cooperated fully with the investigation and addressed each allegation count by count. He maintained that Wanjohi is innocent of the charges brought against him and expressed confidence in clearing his name.
