A prime suspect connected to a series of robberies in Laikipia County has been arrested in Nanyuki, with an AK-47 rifle recovered. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced on Thursday that 46-year-old Renkel Lentaam was apprehended after a prolonged pursuit by investigative officers.

According to the DCI, Lentaam had been in possession of the AK-47 rifle used in multiple robberies. The arrest took place in Nanyuki town, and led officers to Makurian location inside Mukogodo forest. There, the illegal firearm and 53 rounds of live ammunition were discovered hidden inside a modified tree trunk.

“The crime busters proceeded to Makurian location inside Mukogodo forest, where the suspect had hidden the illegal firearm and 53 rounds of live ammunition inside a modified tree trunk,” the DCI wrote on X.

The recovered weapon and ammunition have been documented and sent to the National Forensic Laboratory for ballistic examination. Meanwhile, a manhunt is ongoing for Lentaam’s suspected accomplices, who remain at large.
