Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s wife Jane Waigwe Kimani was on Tuesday presented in court alongside her brother, David Maina Kiama, to answer to charges linked to a Ksh.562 million corruption case in Murang’a County.

Standing before Milimani Anti-Corruption Magistrate Victor Wakhumile, Jane entered a plea of not guilty to corruption charges, as did her co-accused.

It is alleged that between October 21, 2014, and June 19, 2017, she, along with nine others, participated in the unlawful awarding of contracts for media services to Top Image Media Consultant Limited, amounting to over Ksh.351 million.

Both Jane and David were granted release on a bond of Ksh.5 million or a cash bail of Ksh.1 million.

Additionally, they were directed by the court to surrender their travel documents and refrain from leaving the country without prior court approval, as stipulated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

This development follows a recent incident where Mwangi Wa Iria, the former governor, spent a night in Industrial Area Prison due to his failure to meet a Ksh.20 million bond requirement, along with an alternative cash bail of Ksh.10 million.
