The government has allocated at least KSh946 million to prepare for the 61st Madaraka Day celebrations, set to take place today in Bungoma County. According to government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, these funds have been used primarily for the renovation of Masinde Muliro Stadium and the upgrading of Matulo Airstrip.

Mr. Mwaura detailed that KSh807 million has been spent on completing the first phase of the stadium, which has a seating capacity of 40,000. An additional KSh139 million has been allocated for the upgrade of the airstrip, where government officials will be arriving for the celebrations. He also noted that completing the stadium will require another KSh790 million, which will cover the installation of a perimeter fence and the finishing of the terraces. In total, the cost of the stadium is projected to be close to KSh1.6 billion.

The 2024 Madaraka Day celebrations will be led by President William Ruto, marking a significant national event in Bungoma County.
