Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has declared the merger between his Amani National Congress (ANC) and President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). This announcement comes amidst internal strife within the UDA, following a fallout between President Ruto and his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking at his home in Kakamega County on Sunday, Mudavadi explained that the merger was motivated by a vision for political sustainability and growth. He addressed ANC supporters who were skeptical of the merger, reminding them that similar doubts arose when he joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition in 2022.
“There are talks about a merger, which is allowed through the Political Parties Act,” Mudavadi stated, emphasizing that the law facilitates the coming together of parties for collective benefit. He further justified the move by comparing it to the formation of political coalitions, such as Azimio and Kenya Kwanza, which are common in the Kenyan political landscape.
Mudavadi, who also serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, reassured his supporters that the merger is a strategic decision aimed at future planning.
“So, when I tell you ANC is in talks for a merger, don’t think it’s something small; we are planning for the future,” he asserted.
