Long serving Nation Media Group Chair Wilfred Kiboro is set to retire in the coming months, sources have confirmed.
The decision to retire Kiboro was made at a board meeting two months ago.
During the meeting some changes in the composition of the board were made in order to aid the upcoming transition which could cause a shake up in management.
His Highness the Aga Khan’s , Director of Communications Fayyaz Mohamed and Sultan Ali Akbar Allana, the Head of Financial Institutions Group of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED) joined the board as non executive members.
Richard Tobiko, the Chief Financial Officer at NMG was also made an alternate director to the CEO Stephen Gitagama as part of the changes.
Kiboro, a highly respected personality in the media and business industries in Kenya has been at NMG since joining as the managing director Designate of the Nation newspaper in 1993.
He then became CEO in 1995 and drove Nation to its most successful era transitioning it from just a print oriented media house by launching its broadcasting and digital arms in 1999.
During his tenure as CEO, NMG developed into the largest media conglomerate in East Africa with operations in Uganda and Tanzania.
He retired as CEO in 2006 and joined the board as a non executive director before being appointed chair in 2009.
