Content creator Director Trevor has warned men against sharing YouTube channels with their partners, arguing that they bear the biggest losses after a breakup.
Speaking in an interview with Dr. King’ori, Trevor explained that most audiences are drawn to couple content because of the woman. As a result, when a breakup happens, followers tend to migrate to the woman’s new channel, leaving the man struggling to retain an audience.
“The moment you come online as a couple, as a guy, know that things won’t be easy when you break up. The woman will end up being three or more times bigger than you. Most times, people watch couple’s content because of the woman. Why would people watch how you wake up as a man?” Trevor stated.
His remarks come months after his public breakup with Mungai Eve in February 2024. Following their split, Trevor rebranded the “Mungai Eve” YouTube channel—which had nearly 800,000 subscribers—to “Kenya Online Media”, asserting that Mungai’s services were no longer needed.
He also took control of Insta Fame, another YouTube channel with 105,000 subscribers, that had been linked to Mungai.
Despite the split, Mungai Eve quickly rebuilt her brand. In March 2024, she celebrated reaching 100,000 subscribers on her new YouTube channel just five days after launching it.
