A young man from Nandi Hills, Nandi County, is demanding answers after mysteriously losing KSh 1.2 million from his betting account just hours after securing a major win.
Collins Kiptoo had placed a successful bet on March 13, 2024, winning KSh 1.5 million, which was deposited into his account at 1:00 am on March 14. However, his excitement was short-lived after most of the money disappeared under unclear circumstances.
Kiptoo attempted to place another bet barely ten minutes after his win but was unsuccessful. Upon contacting customer care, he was advised to wait 24 hours due to system restrictions. While waiting, he managed to withdraw KSh 300,000, the maximum allowed at the time. By 7:29 pm on the same day, he confirmed that his remaining balance was still intact.
However, when he checked his account again at 1:30 am on March 15, he was shocked to find that his balance had dropped to near zero—KSh 1.2 million had vanished.
Alarmed, Kiptoo reached out to the betting firm’s customer service, only to be told that his money had been lost through “auto-bets”—a feature he insists he never activated.
Frustrated and feeling cheated, Kiptoo stormed the betting firm’s offices in Westlands, Nairobi, demanding answers about who withdrew his money and how the KSh 1.2 million vanished from his account.
