Police have launched a manhunt for a cleaner attached to a private hospital in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, over allegations that he defiled a minor inside the facility’s washroom.
The alleged incident occurred on July 21 at Living Room International Hospital along the Eldoret–Kaptagat Road and was reported at Ainabkoi Police Station.
Ainabkoi Police Commander Charles Getende said the suspect fled shortly after the alleged incident and is currently being sought by detectives. According to investigators, the suspect’s last known mobile phone signal was traced to Kitale Town in Trans Nzoia County.
“We have launched investigations and are pursuing the suspect. We appeal to anyone with information on his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station,” Getende said.
Police said the child had been taken to the hospital for treatment and was asked to provide a stool sample. Investigators allege that the cleaner sexually assaulted the minor inside the hospital washroom.
The suspect, who is reported to have worked at the hospital for about 10 years, remains at large.
The victim’s parents say the child has been left traumatized by the alleged incident.
Living Room International Hospital director Titus Boit declined to comment, saying the matter is under active police investigation.
Detectives say investigations are ongoing as efforts to trace and arrest the suspect continue.
