Police have launched investigations after a 16-year-old driver was involved in a tragic road crash that killed two pedestrians and seriously injured a 10-year-old boy in Nairobi’s Parklands area on Sunday evening.
According to police, the accident occurred at around 6 p.m. when a Toyota Wish travelling from the Deep Sea area towards Limuru Road reportedly lost control. The vehicle struck a drainage ditch, became airborne, veered off the road, and ploughed into three pedestrians walking along the roadside.
One of the victims, 48-year-old Muchuki Mangaa, died at the scene, while another adult male later succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The second victim has not yet been formally identified.
The 10-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital, where he remains admitted.
The teenage driver also sustained head injuries and a cut to the abdomen and is receiving treatment at Aga Khan Hospital.
Nairobi Police Commander Issa Mohamud said detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including how the 16-year-old came to be behind the wheel.
The bodies of the two deceased have been moved to the City Mortuary as investigations continue.
