Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria’s residential property in Karen and Edinburgh Mountain Hospital in Murang’a County have been listed for public auction over an alleged loan default.

According to a notice published by Dalali Traders Auctioneers, the two properties are scheduled to be auctioned on August 25, 2026, to recover an undisclosed debt. The auction notice does not reveal the identity of the lender or the amount allegedly owed.

The notice states that the Murang’a property, registered under Edinburgh Mountain Hospital Limited, sits on approximately 2.96 acres in the Milimani area of Kiharu and includes a five-storey hospital building.

The Karen property, which is registered in Wa Iria’s name, is said to have been offered as security for credit facilities obtained by Edinburgh College Ltd and Edinburgh Mountain Hospital Ltd.

Neither Wa Iria nor the auctioneer had publicly commented on the planned sale at the time of publication.

The planned auction comes as the former governor continues to battle a KSh542.6 million civil recovery case filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The commission alleges that the funds were unlawfully acquired through procurement irregularities and abuse of office during his tenure as governor. Wa Iria has denied the allegations.

Unless the outstanding debt is settled before the scheduled date, the two properties are expected to go under the hammer on August 25, 2026.
