A 17-year-old girl from the Daadab refugee camp has been brutally murdered after refusing to be married off to a 55-year-old man in an arranged union.
The teenager was abducted from her home in Daagale refugee camp and taken to the man’s house, where she was expected to submit to the forced marriage. However, when she resisted, she was subjected to relentless beatings and torture for 27 days.
Her suffering ended in a horrifying act of violence—she was placed on a mattress and set on fire.
Before her death, the girl managed to send an audio recording detailing the abuse she had endured. In a distressing message sent to her mother on Saturday, March 22, 2025, she pleaded for help, fearing for her life.
Her mother later received a heartbreaking call at 2:00 a.m., informing her that her daughter had been killed in a brutal act of torture.
This tragic incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for justice against forced child marriages and gender-based violence in refugee camps. Human rights activists are now demanding swift action against those responsible for the girl’s death.
Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the case as pressure mounts to bring justice to the young victim.
