Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has signed a short-term contract with Scottish Championship club Dunfermline Athletic FC until the end of the season, pending international clearance. This move reunites the 33-year-old midfielder with his former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, who was recently appointed as Dunfermline’s head coach.
Wanyama previously played under Lennon at Celtic from 2011 to 2013, during which they secured two league titles and a Scottish Cup. He notably scored in Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the 2012 UEFA Champions League.
After his tenure at Celtic, Wanyama transferred to Southampton in the English Premier League, making 97 appearances before moving to Tottenham Hotspur, where he played for four years. In 2020, he joined Major League Soccer side CF Montreal, departing the club in January 2025.
Dunfermline Athletic currently faces a relegation battle, sitting in ninth place in the Scottish Championship.
The club hopes that Wanyama’s experience and leadership will bolster their squad in the remaining fixtures. Wanyama is expected to make his debut against Ayr United on Saturday, where he may face former Celtic teammate Scott Brown, now Ayr’s head coach
