Kenya opened the tournament with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Senegal before bouncing back to earn a 2-2 draw against Tanzania and a convincing 3-1 victory over Ivory Coast, finishing second in the group to advance to the knockout stage.
In the quarter-finals, Kenya delivered one of its best performances of the tournament, defeating Libya 2-0 to secure one of Africa’s eight qualification slots for the continental championship.
Although Kenya’s campaign concluded with a 2-0 semi-final defeat to Ghana, the loss had no bearing on qualification, as the quarter-final victory had already guaranteed a place among the continent’s elite.
