Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed President William Ruto’s accusations that he often instigated unnecessary disputes, prompting the president to step in and mediate minor conflicts.
In an interview with KTN News, Gachagua refuted the claims, instead turning his focus on Farouk Kibet, a close aide to the president, accusing him of wielding excessive influence within the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“Farouk Kibet is not a small man… he is a co-president in this country. He runs the government, and everyone reports to him,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua went on to claim that Kibet regularly conveys instructions from the president to cabinet secretaries.
Gachagua recalled a specific incident where Farouk attempted to interfere with his office’s operations, attempting to issue directives and make appointments. Initially, Gachagua believed this was part of the president’s working arrangement, but soon grew suspicious when he realized that Farouk was soliciting money from individuals seeking appointments.
The former DP reported the issue to President Ruto, only for it to be dismissed as a “non-issue” by the president.
