The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a planned three-month closure of the Katani Road junction along Mombasa Road to allow for the installation of new footbridge beams.
The closure is set to begin during the Easter weekend — starting Saturday, April 19 at 10:00 PM, and will last until Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 6:00 AM.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, KeNHA warned of anticipated traffic disruptions, particularly along the Mombasa-bound lanes near the Katani Road junction. The agency advised all road users to plan accordingly to avoid delays.
“This section of Mombasa Road (A8) will experience traffic disruption… to facilitate the installation of fabricated footbridge beams,” KeNHA stated.
To ease traffic flow during the closure, KeNHA has urged motorists to strictly follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with traffic police and marshals stationed at the affected sections.
Closures will also impact several feeder roads, including Syokimau Airport Road, Kiungani Road, and parts of Katani Road heading toward Athi River.
Motorists travelling upcountry or using Mombasa Road regularly are encouraged to factor in the changes when planning their trips.
The roadworks come as part of ongoing maintenance efforts along Mombasa Road following the completion of the Nairobi Expressway.
KeNHA has assured the public that efforts will be made to minimize inconvenience and maintain safe passage throughout the construction period.
