A 33-year-old Kenyan woman has been convicted and removed from the United States after she was arrested attempting to enter the country fraudulently using her sister’s travel documents.
Christin Nyabate Nyandemo was convicted on Thursday, April 4, of fraud and misuse of visas, following her arrest by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at Washington Dulles International Airport. The incident occurred on February 21.
According to authorities, Nyandemo flew into the U.S. from Accra, Ghana, and tried to enter using her sister’s valid Kenyan passport and a U.S. B-1/B-2 visitor visa — a non-immigrant visa issued for business (B-1) or tourism (B-2) purposes.
“The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia successfully prosecuted Christin Nyabate Nyandemo, 33 years old, under 18 USC 1546, which covers false personation and fraud and misuse of visas, permits, and related documents,” CBP said in a statement.
Following her conviction, Nyandemo was removed from the country, concluding the legal proceedings.
Authorities emphasized that U.S. Customs and Border Protection remains committed to maintaining the integrity of the nation’s immigration system and holding violators accountable.
