A man in Lunga Lunga has been fined Sh500 or, in default, to serve two weeks in jail for causing a disturbance at a local club, including snatching patrons’ drinks and damaging property.
Eugine Mwangi was convicted after pleading guilty to charges of creating a public disturbance and malicious damage to property. The court heard that Mwangi had developed a reputation for his unruly behavior, often snatching people’s alcohol and gulping it down without consent.
The prosecution recounted an incident from November last year, when Mwangi allegedly grabbed another man’s drink while he was enjoying a night out with his lover and “ran away with it while gulping it.”
According to the management, Mwangi had become a known nuisance and was subsequently blacklisted by club owner Edmon Ongoya, after complaints from customers who no longer felt safe with their drinks.
However, on March 3, Mwangi returned to the club, accompanied by friends, during what appeared to be a party. Things quickly escalated when he started shouting at the management.
“He is always chasing me away from this club, yet I am just like any other client,” Mwangi reportedly shouted, targeting Ongoya in particular.
He then went on to mock the staff and shouted: “I am here to stay. I will go nowhere.”
Security promptly ejected him from the premises. But the situation worsened when, outside the club, Mwangi began yelling and throwing stones, damaging several glasses in the process before fleeing the scene.
The matter was reported at the nearest police station, and Mwangi was arrested two weeks later from his hideout.
Upon admitting the charges of malicious damage, the court issued the sentence: a fine of Sh500 or two weeks in jail should he fail to pay the amount.
