A night of terror unfolded in Kamulu when a gang of seven heavily armed robbers stormed a family home, held the occupants hostage for hours, and made off with KSh300,000 in cash and valuables in a daring and calculated heist.
The attack occurred in the early hours of May 15 at around 2:00 a.m., when the assailants scaled the perimeter wall of the residence under the cover of darkness. According to the victims, the attackers were armed with pistols, an AK-47 rifle, and crude weapons — a clear indication of a well-planned operation.
Authorities believe the gang had prior knowledge of the family’s hotel business in the nearby Lower Chokaa area and suspected they were in possession of a large sum of money.
Once inside, the intruders overpowered the family, tied their hands and legs, and demanded to know where the cash was hidden. One terrified family member, fearing for their lives, revealed that KSh300,000 was stored in a safe at the family’s hotel a few kilometers away.
Without hesitation, two of the gunmen left for the hotel — equipped with keys and passwords provided by the homeowner under duress. The robbers successfully accessed the safe and took the money before contacting their accomplices, who were still at the residence, to initiate a quick getaway.
In addition to the cash, the gang made off with five high-end mobile phones, police said.
The victims, though traumatized, were left physically unharmed. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to the public for any information that could aid in the investigation.
