A dramatic raid in Wajir Town has uncovered a disturbing case of suspected wildlife poaching after police and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers arrested three men in possession of over 20 kilograms of illegal game meat — believed to be from a giraffe.
The sting operation was carried out in the Bulla Kalkacha area, just behind the local stadium, where the suspects had allegedly divided the meat among themselves. Authorities believe the giraffe may have been illegally hunted in one of the nearby game reserves.
The trio was taken into custody at the scene and is expected to face charges in court. Wildlife authorities have since confiscated the meat, which is being held as evidence.
