Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has scored a legal victory after the High Court in Meru nullified his impeachment, ruling that the process was conducted in contempt of court orders.
In a virtual session on Friday, June 27, Justice Heston Mbogo declared that the impeachment vote held by the Isiolo County Assembly on June 26, which saw 16 out of 18 MCAs vote to remove Guyo from office, was invalid.
“The orders of this court issued on 25th June, 2025… are in force. Any act done in contravention of those orders is null and void,” ruled Justice Mbogo.
The court emphasized that the conservatory orders issued by the Isiolo High Court on June 23—which halted the impeachment proceedings—were still active when the assembly went ahead with the vote.
Justice Mbogo cited Isiolo County Speaker and MCA Abubakar Abdi Godana for contempt and directed that they appear in person or with legal representation to answer to the charges on Monday, June 30 at 9 a.m.
“The said orders shall remain in force until set aside or reviewed by this court or the Court of Appeal,” Mbogo added.
The decision is a significant reprieve for Governor Guyo, who had decried political witch-hunt and rushed procedures by MCAs. The impeachment had stirred tensions within Isiolo County, with some residents and leaders accusing the assembly of ignoring due process.
