A senior police officer is nursing serious injuries after being shot in the left thigh during a fierce confrontation with suspected bandits in Loiyangalani, Marsabit County, on June 8.
The officer, who serves as the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Loiyangalani, was part of a multi-agency team responding to a distress call from Manyatta DC village, where approximately 30 armed gunmen had reportedly regrouped and were terrorizing pedestrians.
According to police sources, the officers were on board a police vehicle when they were ambushed by the armed attackers.
“The group opened fire as the officers approached the village. The OCS was hit in the thigh and sustained serious injuries,” a police report noted.
The injured officer was first taken to a local medical facility for emergency treatment before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialized care.
In the aftermath of the ambush, a response team dispatched to the scene combed the surrounding area and recovered an AK-47 rifle with 11 rounds of ammunition hidden in a nearby thicket. However, it remains unclear who abandoned the weapon, and investigations are ongoing.
