ODM leader Raila Odinga has disclosed that he rejected a proposal from unnamed opposition leaders who allegedly offered to back his 2027 presidential bid in exchange for his support in 2032.
Speaking during a political function in Rarieda, the former Prime Minister revealed that the offer was tied to a long-term political pact, but he turned it down due to lack of trust and divisive politics within the opposition camp.
“Some people said we were outsiders… One even claimed that if he found us in the State House queue, he would remove us. Can you work with such a person?” Raila posed.
Instead, Raila reiterated his commitment to President William Ruto, confirming that he has no intention of parting ways with the Kenya Kwanza administration any time soon.
“I am going nowhere. I will not abandon Ruto because I know where we are heading to. We will walk together in unity to reach our destination,” he affirmed.
The ODM Party leader also dismissed early 2027 political campaigns, urging leaders to focus on development and public service delivery rather than politicking.
“It’s not yet time for campaigns. Anyone who tells my supporters what political direction to take is misleading them. At the right time, I will guide them,” Raila asserted.
He emphasized that working with the Kenya Kwanza government was a strategic move to ensure his supporters are not “left in the cold” and can benefit from national development.
“We do not have to stay in the opposition forever. If there’s a chance to improve the lives of our people, we will take it,” he added.
