Nairobi, June 15 – Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has issued a stern warning to individuals involved in the destruction of public infrastructure during last week’s protests, stating that those responsible will be apprehended and held accountable.
Speaking in Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County, on Saturday, June 14, Sakaja confirmed that security agencies have already identified key suspects behind acts of vandalism and destruction of property in the capital during the recent demonstrations.
“Even if we are angry, let’s not destroy our property. If we must demonstrate, let us do so peacefully,” Sakaja said.
The governor condemned incidents where county infrastructure was vandalised, vehicles torched, and businesses looted, calling on Nairobi residents to exercise restraint and engage in peaceful demonstrations when expressing their grievances.
“The next time, let no one try to destroy infrastructure, burn cars, steal from businesses, or cause chaos,” he added.
Sakaja’s remarks come amid mounting concern over rising cases of violent protests in the city, often resulting in losses for businesses, public disruption, and damage to taxpayer-funded amenities.
