An accountant at the Nyatike Sub-County Treasury in Migori County lost Sh950,000 on Wednesday, June 19, after suspected thieves broke into his car shortly after he withdrew the funds from a local bank.
According to reports, the official had driven to the KCB branch in Migori town, withdrawn the cash, and returned to his office in Nyatike, where he parked his vehicle with the money inside.
Upon returning a short while later, he found one of the car’s windows shattered and the money missing.
Authorities suspect the robbers may have trailed the accountant from the bank to the Treasury office parking lot before executing the break-in.
Police officers responded to the scene and confirmed that investigations are underway. Security footage from nearby buildings is currently being reviewed to help identify the culprits.
No arrests had been made by the time of reporting, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
