Two suspects were lynched by an angry mob in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, after allegedly stealing and slaughtering a sheep in a village on Wednesday, June 12.
According to police reports, the two individuals—believed to be related—were caught in the act after one of the three sheep reported missing by a local resident was found slaughtered in the suspects’ compound. The remaining two animals were not recovered.
Residents descended on the suspects, subjecting them to mob justice. Despite their screams and pleas for mercy, the crowd reportedly beat them to death and set their bodies on fire.
Police later arrived at the scene and confirmed that the bodies were burnt beyond recognition. They were moved to a local mortuary for identification and postmortem examinations.
Authorities have condemned the incident and reiterated that all suspects are entitled to due process under the law. This tragic event comes amid renewed efforts to curb rising cases of mob lynching in both rural and urban areas across the country.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have yet been made in connection with the lynching.
