Manchester, UK – July 19, 2025: Manchester United have officially agreed to sign Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a blockbuster deal worth an initial $87 million, as head coach Ruben Amorim intensifies efforts to revamp the club’s faltering frontline.
Mbeumo, 25, is expected to complete his medical by Monday before traveling to the United States to join the Red Devils’ pre-season tour. This marks United’s third major signing since the end of last season, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Paraguayan teenage sensation Diego Leon.
Amorim’s Overhaul in Full Swing
After a disappointing 2024–25 campaign that saw United finish 15th in the Premier League—their worst since the 1973–74 season—and fall to a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham in the Europa League final, Amorim has been clear about the need for change.
With the departure of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho following loan spells at Aston Villa and Chelsea, and underwhelming performances from strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, Mbeumo’s arrival signals a shift in strategy.
Mbeumo’s Impact and Versatility
Mbeumo was instrumental for Brentford last season, netting 20 goals in 38 Premier League games. Known for his explosive pace, sharp creativity, and clinical finishing, the winger is expected to add dynamism to United’s frontline.
Since joining Brentford from French side Troyes in 2019, Mbeumo has tallied 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances. He played a key role in Brentford’s historic Premier League promotion in 2021.
