Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has survived an impeachment attempt after the Senate voted to uphold his objections against the motion tabled by the Isiolo County Assembly.
In a dramatic Senate session on Tuesday, 31 Senators voted in support of Governor Guyo’s objection, while 12 opposed—effectively nullifying the impeachment process initiated by the County Assembly.
The Senate proceedings centered on whether the County Assembly lawfully held sittings on June 18 and June 26, 2025, to debate and pass the motion seeking Guyo’s ouster. Governor Guyo maintained that proper procedures were not followed.
While issuing the ruling, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi cautioned Governor Guyo against using the outcome as a political weapon or opportunity for chest-thumping.
“This is not a win. It is a postponement of your case. Depending on how you carry yourself, that case may never be heard again—or be back here in days,” said Kingi.
He also urged Guyo to mend the broken ties with dissenting Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) to foster better governance in Isiolo.
The Isiolo County Assembly had accused Governor Guyo of:
- Gross misconduct
- Abuse of office
- Violation of constitutional provisions and laws governing devolution
Guyo has denied all the accusations and blamed the impeachment effort on political witch-hunt and unresolved county disputes.
