Nairobi, Kenya — October 9, 2025
Police officers from the Nairobi Region have uncovered a major counterfeit honey manufacturing operation in Umoja 2, Buruburu Estate, during a sting operation conducted on Monday evening.
According to authorities, the joint operation led by detectives from the Buruburu Police Division resulted in the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of several items used in the production of fake honey.
Among the items seized were containers of counterfeit honey, chemical substances, a heating coil, and a gas cylinder used in the illicit process.
The suspect is currently being held at Ruai Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
Police Warn Against Counterfeit Food Products
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said the raid was part of a broader crackdown on the production and distribution of counterfeit food and beverages across the capital.
“We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious manufacturing or distribution activities,” the NPS said.
Authorities warned that such counterfeit products pose serious health risks to consumers and undermine legitimate local businesses.
The operation marks another milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to protect public health and consumer safety amid a surge in fake goods targeting Nairobi residents.
