Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is the most preferred opposition presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election, according to a new Infotrak survey.
The poll places Kalonzo at the top with a 27 per cent popularity rating among opposition supporters, narrowly ahead of Jubilee Party’s Fred Matiang’i, who garnered 26 per cent.
Linda Mwananchi’s Edwin Sifuna ranked third with 19 per cent support, followed by former Deputy President and Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua at nine per cent.
Former Chief Justice David Maraga received three per cent support, while People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua polled two per cent.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino each registered one per cent support.
The survey also found that 10 per cent of respondents remain undecided, indicating that the contest for the opposition’s presidential ticket is still open.
Regional and Age-Based Support
According to the survey, Kalonzo enjoys his strongest support in Eastern Kenya, where he commands 48 per cent backing, and North Eastern, where he records 34 per cent support.
He also posts relatively consistent support across respondents aged between 26 and 55 years, polling between 26 and 29 per cent in those age groups.
Matiang’i performs strongly at the Coast (25 per cent), Central (29 per cent), Rift Valley (27 per cent), Nyanza (29 per cent) and Nairobi (30 per cent). His highest support comes from respondents aged between 36 and 45 years, where he scores 30 per cent.
Sifuna records his strongest performance at the Coast (25 per cent), Western (35 per cent) and Nyanza (25 per cent). He is also the most popular among younger voters aged between 18 and 26 years, where he attracts 27 per cent support.
Ruto Leads Overall Presidential Preference
In the broader presidential preference ranking, President William Ruto remains the frontrunner with 32 per cent support.
Kalonzo follows with 13 per cent, while Matiang’i and Sifuna are tied in third place at 12 per cent each.
Rigathi Gachagua polled four per cent, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino received three per cent, former Chief Justice David Maraga garnered two per cent, while Martha Karua attracted one per cent support.
The Infotrak survey was conducted between June 22 and June 26, 2026, across all 47 counties.
Researchers interviewed 3,000 adults aged 18 years and above using a mixed-mode data collection approach. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.79 per cent at a 95 per cent confidence level and achieved a 99 per cent response rate.
The findings are expected to shape discussions within the united opposition as leaders seek to agree on a single presidential candidate to challenge President Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
