Detectives from Lucky Summer Police Station in Nairobi have arrested a key suspect believed to be the mastermind behind a counterfeit currency operation, recovering a large cache of fake US dollars.
The arrest followed intelligence-led operations on Monday, December 22, 2025, when officers intercepted a white Toyota Prado suspected of transporting counterfeit currency within the Lucky Summer area.
The suspect, identified as Felix Nyegesa, 38, was taken into custody after a search of the vehicle raised suspicion. Police discovered a locked metallic blue box concealed in the boot of the car. Nyegesa reportedly declined to open the box when requested by officers.
He was subsequently escorted to Lucky Summer Police Station, where the box was opened in his presence. Inside, detectives found 68 bundles of counterfeit US dollar notes, each containing 100 fake bills.
Police also recovered items believed to have been used in the concealment and packaging of the fake currency, including cartons, newspapers, cotton wool, sand, and stones.
Nyegesa has been detained as investigations continue, with detectives suspecting he is part of a wider criminal network involved in counterfeit currency and fake gold scams operating within Nairobi.
Police say the arrest is part of ongoing operations targeting fraud syndicates, adding that several suspects linked to similar crimes have already been arrested, charged, and are facing active cases in court.
Investigations into the racket are ongoing.
