The National Police Service has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in parts of Narok County following escalating tribal clashes that have left several people dead and thousands displaced.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat announced the curfew on Saturday, declaring Trans Mara South and Trans Mara West as disturbed areas requiring urgent security intervention.
Curfew Details and Affected Areas
According to DIG Lagat, the curfew will run daily from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., effective immediately, as security agencies conduct a special operation to restore law and order.
Areas under curfew include:

72-Hour Ultimatum for Illegal Firearms
The Deputy IG issued a 72-hour ultimatum to individuals in possession of illegal firearms, warning that those who fail to surrender their weapons will face decisive police action.
“All criminals with illegal guns have been given 72 hours to surrender the weapons, failure to which appropriate action will be taken,” Lagat warned.
Deaths, Displacement, and Burnt Homes
The directive follows intensifying clashes between the Maasai and Kipsigis communities, particularly in Angata Barikkoi, where violence has surged in recent days.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, more than 1,800 people have been displaced in just three days, with homes torched and property destroyed.
The humanitarian agency reported that families have been forced to flee their homes, seeking refuge in neighboring areas amid fears of further attacks.
Warning to Politicians and Financiers
DIG Lagat also issued a stern warning to politicians and individuals accused of inciting or financing violence, saying they will be pursued and prosecuted.
On Friday, he urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence, stressing that security agencies will not tolerate any attempts to inflame ethnic tensions for political or personal gain.
Security Presence Heightened
Additional police units have been deployed to the region as authorities work to stabilize the area, protect civilians, and facilitate humanitarian access for displaced families.
Residents have been urged to comply with the curfew, cooperate with security officers, and report suspicious activities to authorities.
