A Kisii Member of Parliament (MP) is facing growing backlash after a disturbing video surfaced showing him physically assaulting a 36-year-old man inside a restaurant.
The victim, Omariba Moriasi, was seated and eating when the MP walked in and immediately confronted him, according to footage shared online. Moments later, the MP began attacking him, forcing Moriasi to defend himself as customers and a staff member rushed in to separate the two.
The confrontation lasted several minutes before Moriasi was eventually dragged out of the premises.
Victim Speaks Out: “He accused me of having an affair with his girlfriend”
Speaking to Citizen TV, Moriasi said that he reported the assault at Kisii Police Station, but the MP has not been arrested, raising questions about preferential treatment for politicians.
Moriasi claims the MP ambushed him over allegations concerning his private relationship.
“He stormed over to me, shouting that I must respect him and accused me of having an affair with his girlfriend. Then he began beating me,”
– Moriasi said.
He added that the MP was not alone—he was accompanied by his bodyguard and another unidentified man during the attack.
Lawyer Demands Arrest: “Why is the MP still free?”
Moriasi’s lawyer, Benard Atancha, criticised police for what he described as unusual delays in arresting the legislator despite a formal complaint being filed the same day.
“We have followed all procedures, yet the police have not arrested the individual who assaulted my client with unknown people at Java in Kisii Town,”
– Atancha said.
He also raised concerns about Moriasi’s safety, warning that the MP may still pose a threat and could attempt further harm.
What Happens Next?
Police are yet to issue an official statement regarding the delay in arresting the MP. The incident has fueled public outrage, with many Kenyans calling for accountability and equal treatment under the law.
