Kenyan musician Nadia Mukami has fired back at actress Jackie Matubia following her public criticism of Nadia’s latest single, “Woza.”

Jackie Matubia had stated that she would not participate in the song’s challenge, explaining that the track “doesn’t speak to her.”

In response, Nadia Mukami highlighted the double standards faced by female artists in the music industry. She argued that male musicians rarely face backlash for songs about drugs, alcohol, women, or infidelity, whereas women addressing real societal issues often attract criticism.

“When a woman sings about things that happen in society, suddenly it’s termed immoral. We like to put women down sana,” Nadia stated.

This exchange has reignited conversations on gender inequality in the Kenyan music industry, with fans taking to social media to debate the fairness of criticisms aimed at female artists.
