A young woman identified as Karen Lojore reportedly died on Saturday evening following a stampede during Nigerian star Asake’s concert at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi.
News of her death emerged through social media, where friends and acquaintances mourned her untimely passing after the highly anticipated show ended in tragedy.
According to posts shared online, Karen was among thousands of fans who had attended the concert and had reportedly secured a valid ticket, which was expected to guarantee safe entry into the venue. Her death has sparked outrage and renewed debate over crowd control and event safety.
“One of my friends just lost her friend at the Asake concert; she was caught in the stampede and unfortunately lost her life, yet she had a ticket. My heart breaks for her. Aki, may she rest in peace,” one social media user wrote.
Eyewitnesses have blamed poor planning at entry points, claiming that stewards were slow in clearing revelers into the stadium, causing large crowds to build up outside the gates.
The situation allegedly escalated further when police officers intervened to restore order, triggering panic among concertgoers. What began as crowd control reportedly degenerated into running battles, culminating in a deadly stampede.
As condolences continue to pour in online, pressure is mounting on event organisers and authorities to explain what went wrong and to ensure stricter safety measures at future large-scale entertainment events.
