Businessman Oketch Salah has responded to EALA MP Winnie Odinga after she publicly dismissed his claims of being present during the final moments of her late father, Raila Odinga.
In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday morning, Salah said he stood by his earlier remarks, insisting that his account of Raila Odinga’s final moments was truthful. He accompanied the statement with a photo showing himself in a cordial moment with the former Prime Minister.
While refraining from disclosing further details, Salah said he would not retract his claims and instead promised to address the matter in a forthcoming interview.
“I watched last night’s interview on Citizen TV with Yvonne Okwara, where Winnie spoke about me. Because of the respect I have for Her Excellency the Ambassador, Mama Ida Min Piny from Migori, I chose to remain quiet. That was a deliberate decision,” Salah said.
He added that certain issues required clarification, stressing that his experience with Raila Odinga was genuine.
“Some things need clarity. I stand by everything I said about my last moments with Baba. Those moments were real, painful and lived. I will respond in an interview soon,” he stated.
Salah’s remarks came hours after Winnie Odinga, during a live interview on Citizen TV, dismissed his earlier assertions that he was with Raila Odinga from the onset of his illness until his final moments, and that he considered himself Odinga’s adopted son.
Winnie described Salah’s statements as “false and dangerous,” questioned his intentions, and called for scrutiny of his conduct. She further clarified that Salah was not present at the time of her father’s death, accusing him of fabricating events during a period of mourning for the family.
