A man who was kidnapped by armed attackers from his home in Kandisi, Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, was rescued following a shootout between police and the suspects hours after the abduction.

The incident occurred on the night of January 26, 2026, after the victim arrived at his residence in Rimpa area. According to police, the attackers ambushed him as he drove into the compound.

The gang, armed with pistols and handcuffs, forced their way into the house, held the victim’s family hostage and robbed them of cash and other valuables.

The suspects then fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, taking him hostage. The family alerted police, triggering a manhunt.

Police later traced the vehicle to the Rangau area, where a shootout ensued. During the exchange, the attackers escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.

The kidnapped man was shot in the hand during the incident, while his vehicle’s windscreen was shattered and its tyres deflated. He was rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Police said a search is ongoing for the six-member gang, which remained at large as of Wednesday.
