Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Anthony Kibagendi is in police custody following his arrest on Tuesday afternoon, January 20.
Through a series of posts on his Facebook page, the ODM legislator claimed he was intercepted by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who allegedly blocked his vehicle before escorting him to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.
“I have been aggressively blocked by DCI officers and arrested, being taken to DCI HQs,” Kibagendi wrote.
In a later update, the MP said he had been transferred from the DCI headquarters to Muthaiga Police Station.
Kibagendi went on to link his arrest to political pressure, directly mentioning President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. “Someone tell Murkomen and William Ruto that we shall not be intimidated,” he posted.
The arrest comes weeks after DCI detectives announced they were looking for Kibagendi in connection with an alleged assault captured on CCTV footage at a restaurant in Kisii town. Investigators said the MP went into hiding after the incident was reported, prompting them to call on him to present himself for questioning.
Senior security officials in Kisii identified Kibagendi as the prime suspect in a case filed on Thursday, November 27, 2025, by 36-year-old Astariko Enock Omariba Moriasi.
Police say investigations into the alleged assault are ongoing as the lawmaker remains in custody pending further action.
