A man has been arrested for defacing a presidential monument and plaque along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru highway at Manguo Swamp in Limuru, Kiambu County.
Police identified the suspect as Peter Kenneth Muiruri, who was apprehended by detectives after allegedly vandalising a plaque unveiled by President William Ruto during the launch of the dualling of the Rironi–Naivasha–Gilgil road.
Graffiti Incident on Presidential Plaque
According to investigators, Muiruri used spray paint to write the words “SHA IS A BIG SCAM” across the plaque, which had been officially unveiled on November 28, 2025.
The act of vandalism is said to have occurred on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, but detectives tracked down and arrested the suspect five days later, on December 29, 2025, following investigations.
Plaque Classified as National Property
Court documents seen by Sauce.co.ke indicate that the defaced plaque is valued at KSh 464,050 and is officially listed as national heritage property under the custody of the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
Authorities say the plaque forms part of government infrastructure linked to a major national road project and is therefore protected under Kenyan law.
Legal Action Underway
Muiruri is expected to face charges related to malicious damage to public property and defacement of national monuments, offences that carry serious penalties under Kenyan law.
Police have reiterated that vandalism of public infrastructure, especially presidential monuments and government property, is a criminal offence and warned members of the public against engaging in similar acts.
