A woman identified as Risper Ochola has died after being electrocuted while hanging wet clothes at her home, police have confirmed.
According to police reports, the tragic incident occurred when Ochola was spreading laundry on a metallic clothesline that had been tied to the roof of her house. The roof structure was reportedly in contact with live electricity cables, which are suspected to have been exposed or poorly insulated.
Authorities believe the contact between the wet clothes, the metallic line, and the live electrical cables caused the fatal electrocution.
Kenya Power Joins Investigation
Officers from the police service and officials from Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) visited the scene shortly after the incident. The joint team announced the launch of investigations to determine the exact cause of the electrocution.
Investigators are particularly seeking to establish whether the house was professionally and legally connected to the power supply.
Illegal Power Connections Under Scrutiny
Police noted that illegal or poorly done electricity connections have been linked to several similar incidents across the country, often resulting in fatal accidents.
“These investigations will help establish whether the power installation met safety standards or if illegal connections played a role,” police said.
Body Taken to Mortuary
Risper Ochola’s body was removed from the scene and taken to the mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have urged members of the public to ensure that electrical installations are done by licensed professionals and to report exposed or dangling power cables to Kenya Power to prevent further tragedies.
