A week after flattening hundreds of roadside stalls and illegal structures in Githurai, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a fresh seven-day notice to hawkers operating around Allsops, Kihunguro and Dellview along Thika Road.
The notice requires traders to vacate the affected areas and clear their wares within seven days, failure to which demolition will be carried out.
Areas Targeted in New Demolition Plan
According to KeNHA, the planned enforcement will affect traders operating in:
- Allsops
- Kihunguro
- Dellview
The agency says the move is aimed at paving the way for the construction of designated roadside stations to enhance functionality, improve safety standards and ease traffic congestion along the busy highway.
Traders Count Losses After Githurai Demolitions
The directive comes barely a week after demolitions in Githurai left thousands of traders counting losses. Stalls erected on road reserves were flattened after the expiry of a previous notice to vacate.
The crackdown is part of a broader effort by KeNHA to reclaim road reserves and enforce compliance along major highways.
KeNHA Urges Compliance
The authority has urged traders in the newly listed areas to comply with the notice to avoid forceful eviction and demolition of their structures.
Thika Road remains one of the busiest transport corridors in the Nairobi metropolitan area, and authorities maintain that reclaiming encroached road reserves is necessary to enhance road safety and reduce congestion.
