A grieving family is demanding swift police action after crew members of a Super Metro bus allegedly pushed a 25-year-old man from a moving vehicle, leading to his death.
The family of Joseph Mureithi claims he was thrown out of the bus on Tuesday night along the Kitengela–Namanga Highway. They allege that moments after he was ejected, the same vehicle ran over him before speeding off, leaving him fatally injured by the roadside.
Arrests Made as Investigations Intensify
Police have arrested two crew members — the driver and conductor — as investigations gather pace. The bus, registration number KDK 060H, was later impounded and towed to Athi River Police Station.
Witnesses say Mureithi, a petrol attendant in Athi River, had just completed his shift when he boarded the bus at around 11pm near Shalom Hospital along the busy highway.
Passengers reportedly described the vehicle as overcrowded, with crew members appearing chaotic and confrontational.
Less than a kilometre after departure, the 25-year-old was allegedly pushed out of the moving bus.
DCI Patrol Intercepts Bus
A standby patrol vehicle from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is said to have intervened swiftly, pursuing and stopping the bus before detectives impounded it.
Mureithi was rushed to Shalom Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. An autopsy is expected to be conducted on Thursday to determine the exact cause of death.
Company Responds
Super Metro management has expressed regret over the incident, stating that it is still piecing together the events leading up to and following the tragedy.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family is calling for justice, urging authorities to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
